I am once again caught up on the technology front. I have installed a DVD compatible drive unit.
I can now receive and send data on DVD disks. As a side note, I still have an older box that allows me
access to data on 3.5" and 5.25" Disks; also 100 mb and 250 mb zip disks.

Deja Vu ....    has been moved here.

FYI ....    Microsoft critical update KB918118 may cause the inability to create or
edit existing text in AutoDesk applications. You may want to avoid installing it or remove it if you allow the update
and problems begin.

FYI ....    You will find release dates for 2008 version AutoDesk Products
here.
*****************************************
FYI ....    Current versions of AutoDesk products are currently NOT SUPPORTED on Windows Vista.
The problems you encounter will vary depending which product you install, and what flavor of Vista you have.
Update! #2  Word is out that the AutoDesk 2008 product line will be compatible with 32 and 64 bit versions
of these Windows Vista products: Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business and Enterprise.
They are also working on an update/patch to run the AutoDesk 2007 product line on the 32-bit versions of Windows Vista.
Since you earn your money using AutoCAD not the operating system, and the price of AutoCAD is much greater than the operating system,
the AutoCAD software should be the determining factor in deciding to upgrade or not.
I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST upgrading your operating system to any version of Windows Vista at this time.
AutoDesk should be releasing their 2008 software sometime around the middle of March. Wait until then.
Update! #1  Here is a work-around recently posted on the AutoDesk News Groups to run AutoCAD 2006 on Vista Business.
Open up C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2006\ then right-click on acad.exe, choose properties, open up Compatibility tab,
click the button near the bottom labeled "Show Settings for All Users", accept UAC,
check box labeled "Run this program as an Administrator",
click OK, check box again labeled "Run this program as an Administrator", click OK and close explorer.
Now whenever you launch AutoCAD UAC prompts you to accept it, and you have to hit "run program" but CAD launches.
Caution: You will be unable to access files located on a server using this work-around.
